Today marks both World Architecture Day and World Habitat Day.
This year, the UIA Council chose the theme `Architecture for Resilient Communities` in parallel with the United Nations` theme of `Resilient urban economies: cities as drivers of growth and recovery`.
The theme highlights the importance of architecture in creating strong and healthy communities and sparks discussions on urban and rural connections.
We join the UIA in encouraging all in the industry to create innovative concepts that prioritise community well-being, culture, and sustainability.

Our recent submission for the RIBA Department 4 Education Competition! The brief was to choose a UK department store and come up with a concept to convert it into a small secondary school using SterlingOSB Zero as one of the main components. Worlds 50 Best Hotels 2023 and @thegleneagleshotel flew the flag for Scotland, claiming the 32 slot and also the Art of Hospitality Award, which recognises the quality of hotel service.
Over the course of six years, 3DReid was Lead Consultant and Architect for the progressive refurbishment, alteration and extension of Gleneagles. Our collaboration with gleneagles has seen the launch of multiple new public spaces – three bars, two restaurants, a café, an afternoon tea room, two children’s adventure spaces, a beauty lodge, resident spa, a retail arcade, meeting and event spaces – the redesign of the lobby, corridors and 233 luxury guestrooms and suites.

The panel agreed that Bath student Warren D’Souza’s cultural project promoting traditional textile craft in the city of Udaipur was the most comprehensive, rational and resolved response with a superb depth of drawings, line work and material consideration that worked hard to ensure locally sourced materials were used throughout.
This year’s shortlisted students stood out for the quality of their presentation, sensitivity and creativity, with a richness to the visuals including impressive film work, drawings and visualisations that gave the judging panel lots to consider.
The anonymous nature of nominations and the shortlisting process resulted in an encouraging majority of entries by female architects, which bodes well for an industry working hard to bring an equality agenda to the fore.

Today we had an excellent CPD with @atrium.lighting who came in to our studio to talk about their product range and how they can help support us on our projects.
By including lighting at the early stages of design we can produce the best schemes - the difference between a badly lit and well-lit design is huge.
We covered brands, colour rendering, lighting control and everything in-between.

Lynne, Adriana, Darren and Chris had to build a tower, a bridge along with portraits of one another! They won the competition by building the tallest tower and the longest bridge!
