Leicester School of Architecture, DMU, tops the UK’s best schools again in 3DReid’s 13th Student Prize

This year’s winner of the £1,000 3DReid Student Prize is The Leicester School of Architecture graduate Esther Akanni for her reinvention of Hackney Town Hall. Competing against 6 other entries, Akanni won for the depth of her analysis and investigation which informed a creative and playful building. Her design would serve the community by interlacing civic uses with a green hub where locals can grow and purchase fruit and vegetables encouraging spaces and adjacencies that would enhance transparency and connectivity between the community and government.

Joint runner up was awarded to Stephanie Elward from Kent School of Architecture with her ‘Rowntree’s Library for Precious Books’ and Alex Kah Kong from The Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow with his ‘Searching for Wholeness/Seminary’ scheme.

Marina Eftychia Konstantopoulou and Evangelia Giannoulaki from the University of Strathclyde won the online Public Vote with over 490 ‘Likes’ on 3DReid’s Facebook page with Synchroni[CITY] a series of civic structures that explore the sense of belonging and explore of the states of time, memory and space in Glasgow City Centre.

In total 28 schools nominated students in this year’s event.
