Project description

Redevelopment of the Lambeth College Vauxhall Campus to provide a new college building for vocational training with a focus on building trades, hospitality and health (the Skills Centre). The project includes 232 new dwellings in a mix of one, two and three bed apartments and townhouses, a new hotel with a remit to support hospitality training, and new high quality landscaped space. 3DReid are responsible for the site masterplan and the detail design of the residential and hotel components.

Innovations & added value

The site lies on the south-west corner of the Nine Elms opportunity area and marks a gateway to forthcoming Thames-front development. The site is tightly constrained: sun paths and daylight were studied extensively to help optimise access to sun and sky for residents, and to minimise overshadowing of new public spaces and adjacent land. Two of the residential buildings feature rooftop gardens with appropriate wind sheltering, for residents.
