Projects / Cuba Street

Project description
Cuba Street is part of a district of narrow streets on the Isle of Dogs, south of the Canary Wharf cluster. Historically residential, this district is now experiencing a major increase in density and height. Our proposal provides high quality apartments in a pair of slender high rise buildings, shaped to minimise the environmental impact on the surroundings, especially at street level, where a new south-facing pocket park is planned as part of the development. A hotel forms part of the scheme, and the higher of the two towers has a publically accessible bar-restaurant at roof level.
Innovations & added value
The density is unusually high for a site of this scale and type. The scheme underwent extensive testing for wind and daylight, the results of which were used to inform the shapes of the towers; the final design produces better wind conditions than leaving the site undeveloped.
