3DReid shortlisted for three Scottish Design Awards 2020

We are thrilled to have three projects shortlisted for the Scottish Design Awards 2020!

The finalists highlight our multi sector experience in designing Hospitality & Leisure, Residential & Care and Workplace environments. We look forward to the virtual awards ceremony to be held on Thursday 10 September 2020.

The Finalists include:

Commercial/Hotel Building: Malmaison, Edinburgh
Future Building project: Canongate, Edinburgh
Future Building project: Craigmillar Intergenerational Living and Care, Edinburgh

Malmaison, Edinburgh

The scheme concerns the proposed remodelling and re-use of a series of adjoining properties on St Andrew Square & St David St, to form a 72 bed boutique hotel. A sensitive conversion of a listed building into a series of active public spaces at street level and bedroom accommodation on upper levels. A sensitive new build extension within the existing courtyard provides additional front of house space and key operational linkages while ensuring that the form and character of the existing space is retained.

Canongate, Edinburgh

Our proposals for a new office development seek to maintain the layered existing fabric and the tales that are inherent within it, whilst providing the next chapter in the story through a contemporary intervention that draws inspiration from the grain and character of this unique piece of the City.

Spanning four stories of accommodation, the scheme offers a unique working environment with flexible areas knitted around the retained brickwork and stone structures, opening up new routes and permeability in and around the site, whilst reconciling a challenging topography in the promotion of greater accessibility and connectivity.

Craigmillar Intergenerational Living and Care, Edinburgh

A mixed-use intergenerational residential development, comprising Purpose Built Student Accommodation, Assisted Living and Dementia Care provision.

The proposed development has sought to create an environment that positively addresses the challenges of the nation’s ageing demographic and which provides an integrated, intergenerational community that accommodates some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

Through careful structuring of the site and through working with its sloping topography, the development seeks to provide secured space for the residents of the dementia care home, whilst maintaining connectivity between this and the wider area – integrating, not isolating.
