A Sense of Arrival at Luton London Airport

London Luton Airport is currently investing over £160million to transform the airport. There are a myriad improvements currently taking place in all corners of the airport and beyond including improved rail and road links, a new larger terminal, updated interiors and newly refurbished carparks to name a few. The ambition is to create an experience that is truly passenger focused, both easy and enjoyable, making the airport a recognised brand.

3DReid were engaged for a quick six week programme from concept to construction, to enhance the approach and improve wayfinding and branding in the forecourt, in time for the new terminal opening in December. The final proposal, based on analysis of the flow of people on the site, developed a modular cube that could be quickly manufactured and built up in flexible combinations. The cubes were closely linked with the new LLA brand to provide interventions that are both fun and functional.

These temporary shapes have been developed to provide seating, planting and refuse containers and start to define a flavour of how the masterplan could evolve and a standard for the future development of the approach and wider masterplan.

3DReid are also working with LLA to establish the interior design strategy across the airport. This seeks to reinforce the new LLA brand and provide a consistent high quality experience for passengers across the whole of the airport.
