Projects / Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh
Gleneagles (part of Ennismore)
Gleneagles Townhouse is the conversion of a former bank headquarters to a 33 bed luxury hotel, members club and leisure destination for Gleneagles at St Andrew Square in Edinburgh.
The project involves the alteration, extension and refurbishment of two notable Category A Listed buildings of significant historic and architectural character within Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. 3DReid has worked with Gleneagles and Edinburgh City Council to ensure that one of the city’s finest listed buildings is preserved and restored sensitively to create a fantastic new hotel with private meeting and events spaces, plus associated restaurants and bars.
The proposal includes a three storey extension of a typical 1780’s sandstone town house, a new single storey pavilion extension behind and a rooftop extension to the more significant 1840’s bank building. Also included is the full refurbishment of the existing internal and external building fabric along with modifications and alterations as well as a new external rooftop terrace for members.
Innovations & added value
Comprehensive heritage and conservation studies conducted in order to fully understand original fabric and to identify unsatisfactory later modifications and additions, enabling the development of a scheme to restore and enhance the former, whilst reconciling the latter.
On site with anticipated completion in March/April 2021.
