Projects / Avonbridge United Reform Church

Client
Avonbridge URC
Project description
With a strong presence in its community, Avonbridge United Reform Church provides a series of key initiatives, from a Credit Union, to a Lunch Club, for the residents of the small village, outside Falkirk, in which it is located.
Presently making do with a hall in a very poor state of repair and church that is disproportionately large, relative to its congregation, 3DReid were approached to advise on how best to bring the facilities up to current standards, whilst operating within the limit of a very tight budget.
Innovations & added value
The solution was to remove the hall and consolidate all activities within the church itself. By inserting a contemporary timber volume – containing the URC’s Sanctuary space, a kitchen and WCs – into the main body of the building, a striking and adaptable outcome is achieved.
Offering the flexibility to accommodate both small and large groups, whilst providing the potential to host two events, concurrently, the proposed intervention aims to build on the considerable groundwork laid by the church and consolidate the building’s position as a cornerstone of the community.
