Commonwealth Arena & Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

Showpiece for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Client
Glasgow City Council

3DReid, in association with Sports Concepts, have designed the  showpiece for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The only completely new sports facility designed for the games provides two distinctly separate arenas under one roof. The arena and velodrome are linked by a connecting building which includes offices for the National Sport Federations.

Innovations & added value
The team has worked with specialist velodrome and athletics track designers and seating suppliers to create the most effective and flexible solution. Economies have been made in the design by combining public facilities, changing and support facilities, and building services serving the main event spaces.

Status
Complete October 2012
