Construction work has commenced on Glasgow’s National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome designed by 3DReid. The project is being built by Sir Robert McAlpine and will host badminton and cycling events at the upcoming 2014 Commonwealth Games. In addition, there will be office space and a number of community facilities on offer, including sports halls, five a side pitches, roller-skate park and gym. Located in the east end of the city the facility will be in close proximity to Celtic Park, forming a sporting hub. Piling work will continue for several months before the building comes out of the ground. It will then start to take shape very quickly. The Games Committee has set up a webcam so that progress can be tracked on site - http://www.glasgow2014.com/The+Story+So+Far/webcamera.htm |
