Largest Practice-Run Student Prize in its 5th Year

3DReid has issued a call for entries to the biggest practice-run student prize for a fifth successive year. Nominations are sought from all UK schools of architecture for their one best Part II student who will fight it out for £1,500 first prize.

As last year every entry will be uploaded online to allow the public to shape the shortlist and vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ winner. In addition, an exhibition of all entries will be held at the practice’s London office during the London Festival of Architecture (19th June to 4th July) giving students added exposure and the public an additional chance to vote for their favourite.

David Stanford, Director at 3DReid said: “We’ve always been concerned about the long-term future of the profession and the exodus of talent before they have even qualified. We must continue to promote the quality of our schools and students. It is essential if the profession is to be in a strong position to grow out of recession. It is why the 3DReid Student Prize is so important to us as a practice and why we are delighted to be running it again in 2010.’

Paul Warner, Research Director at 3DReid said: “Every year the 3DReid Student Prize has grown and grown. In 2009, over 5,500 people voted online for their favourite student and we hope to encourage even more people to support the cream of the UK’s upcoming talent.”

Steve Roberts, tutor of Gavin Lowden, last year’s winner from Northumbria University said: “For students to see the profession recognise their work, after years of hearing their tutors talk, is invaluable and adds to that authentic experience. The 3DReid Student Prize gives them something extra to aim for.”

The overall winner will be chosen by a panel of esteemed judges including clients and architecture journalists and announced in July.An official letter, nomination form and poster will be sent out to architecture schools later this month.
