Perth & Kinross Council has signed a 30-year deal with Axiom Education that will see them undertake their biggest ever PPP project, and enable construction to commence on six new schools. As part of the £136 million agreement, led by ABN Amro, Laing O’Rourke and Mitie, 3DReid is to push forwards two schools, both due to start on site in early 2008.

A new secondary school will be delivered in Kinross, accommodating 1100 pupils, and including a library and museum. In Perth, a combined nursery, primary and secondary school providing Roman Catholic education will accommodate 100, 350 and 650 children respectively, with a community library.

Lynn Cameron, Associate Director at 3DReid said: “Both schools have been designed to relate to their unique site environment providing exciting and inspiring spaces in which to teach and learn. High emphasis has been placed on the creation of social areas and the provision of facilities for community use.”

She continued: “Building form and orientation have been arranged to support passive ventilation and solar design, utilising a modern, high quality palette of materials, reflecting the council’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficient design.”

Perth and Kinross Council leader Ian Miller said it was an important day for the council and local communities: “The Investment in Learning Programme can move forward and make the council’s vision of excellent education and lifelong learning for all its residents a reality.”

The 4 other schools will be designed by Aedas and Marland Consulting Group.
